In 1976, under the umbrella of the Otley Council of Churches a group of women  produced a directory called "Welcome to Otley". 
As you can imagine, this was a mammoth task particularly as it was typed by hand and completely prepared for printing by the group.
In 1978, the task was repeated and again sufficient numbers printed for the directory to be well distributed throughout the town.

This directory is offered as a tribute to those that produced the first two editions so long ago. It well appreciated that the task in so many respects is simpler because of computer technology and in some ways more exciting because of the possibilities offered by the internet.

How it works

This directory contains details of about 450 organizations and services although some cannot be contacted or found and some have definitely been disbanded.

The information in this directory is bound to be out of date and incorrect, however it is hoped that in general there will be enough information to get people, and particularly, newcomers to the town contacts into their point of interest.

The main page for each entry shows when the information for that entry was collected or some comment relating to "unfound" or "disbanded".

Any corrections are gratefully received and soon there should soon be a form for filling in data. In the mean time please contact Otley Community Council by email.
